Detail of the Zara dress, loving the neckline and the shoulders.

Detail of the Primark dress, sure this paintsplash-stuff has been around for a while now, but I think it's still relevant. And again, love the sleeves.

Jesjes. Ja paljon uusia kokeiluja odottaa kaapissa. Jopa haaremihousut. Ja kärmestä. :)

translation: For some weird reason this blog has been very much about music lately. Have I became a rock-police? Nope, I just can't always be bothered do take pictures of myself or download them here. I wish I could. I like to read and view the outfits of other bloggers so much. However, here's some of the latest outfits. Yesyes. And loads of new experiments are waiting in the wardrobe. Even harem pants. And some snaky stuff. :)

Sittemmin Emily on voittanut Ranskan Mercuryn eli arvostetun "Prix Constantin:n".

translation: Finally I have some pics from the recent gigs. The aftermath of both gigs is excellent, I'm so happy I got to see these artists live. So here's some pics from Emily Loizeau's gig in Bush hall and Coeur de Pirate's (i.e. Béatrice Martin's) gig in Lumiere. The artists were touring by a change in London at the same time.

Since then Emily has won the French Mercury prize i.e. Prix Constantin. Béatrice on the other hand has returned touring in Canada and concentrates on creating new songs and on the English side-project "Pearls". If these artist were to tour somewhere near again I would say Emily is definitely worth seeing even if one wouldn't speak French more than "merci". Energy and partly English lyrics work so well. Coeur de Pirate on the other hand might benefit from a more elaborate show and a larger stage. Lumiere was maybe a bit too "rock" and Béatrice didn't quite live up to expectations. On the other hand she is so young that she has time develop as a performing artist to very high spheres!

Joulua odotellessa!

translation: Waiting for Christmas! This is one of the series of five cards I did recently. They might still change when I get some feedback and possible suggestions for changes. But anywhoo. Now back to work, series of 13 images is waiting for me.

Photos from Marais

Ollaan varattu tällä viikolla matka Suomeen jouluksi, Jee! Ja matka Pariisiin tammikuussa JEEEEE! Viimekerrasta onkin jo melkein vuosi vaikka lupasin joskus itselleni käydä Pariisissa parin kuukauden välein.

Tällä kertaa menemme Maraisin kaupungin osaan, oikealle puolelle jokea.

translation: I'm very busy this week so just a quick translation. We booked trips to Finland for Christmas and to Paris for January, well one week in January. Looking forward to it a lot! This time we'll go to Marais instead of my usual Saint Germain des Pres and Latin Quartiers. We'll see how I manage on the other side of the river. I also received a parcel just today actually. It contained very cool peep-toe boots, snake skin shoe-boots and snake skin jeans. I'm obviously starting to warm up to the animal prints. And the total was less than 50 quids, for two pairs of shoes and jeans. Bargain, I'll say! I'll probably show those on this site at some point. Oh, and all the pics from last week are still in the camera too. Ooh, no stress! :)

Perfect Emily Loizeau

Sister -video

Coconut Madam live at TV5 -video

Beautiful song Sur la Route - no video, just a photo though

Emily and Cyril have had a bit too long day rehearsing... -video :)

translation: Emily Loizeau is a great example of what a perfect gig can be like. It's not just about the music, it's also about the performance. And that's something that Emily and her band are masters at. They had a gig in London's rough Sheperds Bush yesterday. Although the area is what it is Bush Hall really did do justice to their gig. Once we got in from the main doors the atmosphere changed and old-fashioned ball room with proper ceiling cornicings and sparkly chandeliers was waiting for the night. Small loosely positioned round tables suited the elegant atmoshpere and there were just the right amount of people. We got nice seats in center frontish and after an aduqately interesting supporting act (Liz Green) the highlight of the night could begin.

We had seen Emily once already in London's Institut Francais so we sort of knew what to expect. The songs were from the latest Pays Sauvage -record with a few extras, performed energetically, professionally, vividly and at times fiercely. I don't know exactly how Emily does it, but she has a nature's gift when she performs. Energy flows, the instruments change and she has even developped a way to make a dramatic smashing sound by stomping her feet against the floor. At first we thought the floor had some special mics to capture the noice but afterwards we got proof that there are no special mics, it's just Emily making all the noice with her feet. Also Emily's cellist Olivier Koundouno and drummer Cyril Aveque performed particalrly well. The blokes are top musicians, confident performers but in a fun way. They are not the slightest arrogant but musicians who sound and look like they know what they are doing.

After the night had passed and the last song was over, Emily started to walk accross the hall towards the doors. It looked like the night was over but geniously there was another piano on the back of the room. We got a splendid exercise for our necks as Emily played and sang with her friend Jocelyn West a bonus song in the corner. After this it certainly looked like that was it for the night, but ooh no. Emily came to the center of the hall with cellist Olivier and drummer Cyril, very close to our table. It was great to see them so closely and enjoy the last few songs. All and all it was a magnificent, magnificent, magnificent gig. We couldn't have asked for more. Oh and the fashion... Emily's dress looked like it could have been from a film of the 40s, a long black frock with frills on the collar and bare feet so that she could jump, Olivier and Cyril had a very cool classic gentleman -look going on, wearing vests with buttons done, crisp shirts and Cyril even had a trillby hat.

Coeur de Pirate

Comme des Enfants -video

Pour un Infidele (with Jimi Hunt) -video

Eilen mennimme Lontoon Semifinaliin Luminaireen kuuntelemaan merirosvon sydäntä.

translation: Yesterday we went to London's own Semifinal Luminaire to hear the pirate's heart. The place was very rock and the gig sold out. There was place for maybe hundred people so no wonder. That was of course a good thing for us because we got so close to the stage that any closer we would have been part of the band. Beatrice had been a bit ill so maybe that explains why a small girl with oversize jumper and worn out shoes showed up on the stage instead of a "rock star". But it's the music that counts, eh.. The songs were good, as one might expect. We heard a few unreleased ones and a large part of the released production. The speaks between the songs were bilingual in English and in French and on top of that two supporting acts entertained us one of which, Anna Log, we might hear again and the other, Mariner's Children I'm pretty sure never to hear from again.

Although the stage show was non-existing and they hadn't made an effort with the outfits, it was nevertheless good to hear the songs live that been so much played on the record and have gained so huge success in the French speaking world. At least in Nice Coeur de Pirate resounded constantly from the windows of the local homes to streets an alleys.

Ladies Who Lunch

translation: Well, actually unlike what the title says it wasn't a lunch but a dinner. And I probably shouldn't say I'm "Lady who lunches" because a. I'm not that well-off and b. I work, even if only freelance. But that term was the first that popped into my head about the outfit. That and Chanel-esque. So I met my very good friend after a long time and we went to Covent Garden to have dinner. It was the first time I wore the dress, Rainbeaux from Tk Maxx. I was struggling to choose which pair of shoes would do more justice to it. I ended up choosing the black patent shoeboots. Am I the only one who has gotten a bit tired with patent. Maybe. Anywhoo it was a lovely evening and I was pretty pleased with my outfit.

Platform Cravings

Olen pikkuhiljaa alkanut lämmetä ajatukselle platformien paluusta.

translation: I've started to warm to the idea of the platforms' return. I still remember the last round very well: the rave-fashion of the 90s and the high wedge platform but these new platforms look fresh again. I don't know how easy it's to walk with them, I better go to New Look and find out. Maybe the biggest inspiration for wearing platforms has come from Elin Kling, Swedens most polpular fashion blogger. Her style is otherwise pretty much the same as that of Kate Moss; black, grey, worn-out denim, animal prints and sky high heels. But it's the heels that have caught my eye and now I should just decide which ones to choose. At least the last ones, Chanel-type ankle boots I must have (even if they wouldn't have the platform I've been craving for).

Flash from the Past

translation: Hey, this is a very quick post. The outfit was very quickly grabbed from the closet and a bit more time was spent on decorating the pics with the curlycurl. Boots are Clarks from a few years back (and amazingly comfortable to wear!) and dress and leggings are from Tk Maxx. The Oasis coat (a Christmas present from Jussi) is something worth admiring. I was glansing through the Vintage Fashion book of Zandra Rhodes and I noticed that Dior has done almost identical coat in 1957. Same cropped sleeves, bell shape, large buttons and cream coloured fabric. If only I could wear the green frock someday too!

Rainy Day

Täällä on satanut koko viikon. Olin ajatellut vihdoin ottaa jotain kivoja kuvia ulkosalla koska valo on aika kiva elementti, mutta kuka nyt tuonne sateeseen viitsii mennä seisoskelemaan. En minä ainakaan. Joten nämäkin kuvat jäivät sisäkuviksi. No, joku päivä sitten. Pelkästään paita on mun mielestä edelleen vähän liian tellta. Vaikka teltatkin voi olla ihan kivoja, joskus.

Blogin ulkoasua on myös muutettu kuten huomata saattaa! Kiitos Jussille taas aherruksesta! x

translation: It's been raining all week here in England. I had a great idea of taking some nice pictures outside because light is such a nice element, but who wants to go and stand in a rain like that. Not me. So these pictures are taken indoors, again. I'm now very excited of a loose blouse and a cardigan combo. Previously I had always tied the blouse with a belt but hey, I reckon the gardi does the trick too. On its own the blouse is still too much of a tent, though. Having said that, sometimes tents can be quite nice too.

The layout of the blog has been changed too, as you may have noticed! Thanks to Jussi for all his hard work! x

Waiting for Norah

Jes, jes, jes. Ensi viikolla tulee Norah Jonesin uus levy markkinoille.

Jes, 17 päivä ilmestyy Norahin uusi levy The Fall, 18 päivä on Coeur de Piratin keikka Lontoossa ja 19 päivä saapuu Emily Loizeau bändeineen. Ensiviikolla soi!

translation: Yes, yes, yes. Norah Jones' new album will be released next week. This has happened to me before. I start listening to some artist non-stop and then I wonder hmmmh, when might the next album of so-and-so be out. I check it out on the net and bang, on the next week! The same thing happened with Tori Amos last spring. I swear I haven't heard it from anywhere. Or seen any adverts. I'm sure I haven't.

What I'm trying to say is that this is very good news. The previous three albums are starting to be worn out. They're so easy to listen, perfect background music for when I'm making illustrations or loitering on the internet. So on the 17th the new Norah Jones album "The Fall" will be out, on the 18th Coeur de Pirate plays in London and on the 19th Emily Loizeau is playing with her amazing band. Next week is musical!

Clearing Out

Nyt se alkoi! Talvi-siivous! Kuvissa muutamia yksityiskohtia.

Tässä linkki ebay -kamppeisiini

translation: Now it has started! The winter clear out! It was time to dig up the winter coats from the back of the closet and it was a long way to get there. Too long. Well, now I've been toiling for a few days with a camera on my hand and a tape measure on the other and a massive pile of what used to be my clothes and shoes has ended up on Ebay. There's some details in the pictures.

And this is the link to my ebay stuff

Welcome Winter

Festive Covent Garden

Thames by Night

Somerset House Ice Rink

Noh, onneksi arki on sekin ihan mieluisaa. Jotta joulun odotus ei pääsisi unohtumaan tehtailen joulukorttidesigneja agentilleni. Saa nähdä miten käy.

Kuvissa Covent Gardenia, Lontoon Waterloo Bridge joissa kävimme pyörähtämässä sekä Somerset Housen jäärata joka sekin avataan reilun viikon päästä. Joulu joulu joulu.. ! :)

translation: I've started feeling very festive now, I can't help it. Oxford Street Christmas lights were switched on this Tuesday, Covent Garden is looking Christmassy and it becomes dark so early that I can't pretend it's autumn anymore. Winter is here. Last few weeks have been wonderful. First Pauliina and Jukka made a short visit to London, then my family Atte, Eeva, Eero and Riitta visited Beaconsfield and right after them Hanna and Mika visited mainly London but also Beaconsfield.

It was great to hang around in London, eat out and see the world go by. It was like a holiday for us too. With my family we also managed to go on a county trip to Bath, Oxford and Stonegenge. I might write more about that later. Now it's time to get back to everyday life. Well, I'm glad that's not too unpleasant either. And just that I wouldn't forget Christmas is coming I'm designing Christmas cards for my agent. We'll see how it goes.

In the pictures there's Covent Garden, Waterloo Bridge both of which we visited recently and Somerset House which will be opened after one week or so. Christmas Christmas Christmas... ! :)
