500 Days of Summer

Partygoer: So Tom, what is it that you do?
Tom: I write greeting cards.
Summer: Tom could be a really great architect if he wanted to be.
Partygoer: That's unusual, I mean, what made you go from one to the other?
Tom: I guess I just figured, why make something disposable like a building when you can make something that last forever, like a greeting card.

Elokuva 500 Days of Summer on lupsakka elokuva mahtavalla dialogilla. Juoni on passivis-agressiivisuudessaan aika keskinkertainen, mutta ei dialogivetoisen elokuvan tarvitsekaan olla juonenkäänteiden ruhtinas. Elokuvan casting on täynnä loistavia valintoja, Linnunradan käsikirja liftareille -elokuvasta tuttu Zooey Deschanel on erinomainen Summer eikä Kolmas kivi auringosta -sarjan Joseph Gordon-Levitt:kään ole yhtään hassumpi Tomin hahmossa.

Lienee parempi etten jäsentele elokuvan juonta sen koommin, mutta sen sanon että tyylitietoisille tämä elokuva on makeaa mahan täydeltä. Summerin asut ovat mahtavan romanttisia, hulmuavat helmat vintagea parhaimmillaan, hiusleikkaus suoraan 70-luvulta ja asunnon sisustus korea kuin karkkipaperi. Erityisesti tykkäsin Summerin romanttisista hiusnauhoista, kellohamehelmoista ja kodin sinivalkoisesta kuviotapetista.

En välttämättä sanoisi tätä elokuvaa täydelliseksi tai maailmaa järisyttäväksi, mutta visuaalisena hemmottelu elokuva toimii erinomaisesti ja dialogi kyllä saa kyynisemmänkin hymyilemään.


Translation: Film 500 Days of Summer is a cosy film with a great dialog. The plot is quite mediocre and passive-aggressive, but hey, who said the plot of a dialog centred film should be the full of twists. The casting of the film is excellent, Zooey Deschanel, famous from the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", is brilliant in Summer's role and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, from Tv-series "3rd Rock from the Sun", isn't half bad as Tom.

It's probably better I won't go into too much detail with the plot, but I'll just say for those interested in styles this film is a treat. Summer's outfits are fantastically romantic, the floaty hems are vintage at it's best, haircut straight from the seventies and the decoration of the flat colourful like a candy wrapper. What I especially liked was Summer's romantic hair ties, bell skirts and blue-white wallpaper.

I wouldn't necessarily call this film by any means perfect or earthmoving, but as a visual treat the film works brilliantly and the dialog will make even the more synical ones smile.
